Earmarks Are Gateway Drug to Bigger Gov’t

Red State’s Erick Erickson says Republicans need to say no to earmarks.

Red State Uprising author and editor Erick Erickson is not happy with the GOP’s “Pledge to America.”

And he’s making that very clear: “They [Republicans] don’t want to be the ‘Party of No.’ I think the GOP needs to embrace being the ‘Party of No’ and say, ‘No, we don’t want to go down Barack Obama’s path anymore.’”

Erickson prides himself in singling out faux conservatives from true conservatives. Does he have a formula for making the distinction?

Actually, he does: “The best way is to figure it out is, are they [Republican members] in favor of cutting government itself. And the best way to figure that out is to ask if they are for earmarks. [Earmarks] are the gateway drug to bigger government.”
