1. Eric Boehlert of Media Matters Race Baits on GMA

Please take a moment to watch the debate on Good Morning America between Eric Boehlert of Media Matters for America and Andrew Brietbart of, among other outlets, Big Government. Eric Boehlert states the following about the Tea Party movement: “There are clearly racist elements. If you look at the Tea Party media, Glenn Beck is now saying that Barack Obama is orchestrating a race war. Rush Limbaugh is saying that Obama is keeping unemployment artificially high to extract revenge on white America. There are clearly racist elements. There is race baiting. The’re out of control and Andrew’s smear of Shirley Sherrod is the latest example.” Where is the evidence that Glenn Beck said “Obama is orchestrating a race war?” What Beck said, according to Media Matters own audio link is Glenn Beck requests on his radio show for his listeners to research racist left wing groups. Then there’s the actual Rush Limbaugh quote too. Neither say what Boehlert claims. Please click here for the rest of the post.

2. Gallup caught lying about the generic ballot trend

The Gallup Generic Ballot is a trusted, widely reported resource. I’ve analyzed it extensively, and defended it to others. But yesterday, when I covered the poll’s latest release, Gallup lied. I was lied to, you were lied to, everyone who’s trusted the Gallup name got lied to. How? Gallup is combining two different sampling methods into one so-called trend of Registered Voters (complete with captioned graph), getting different results, but pretending they show one trend all the same. 3. Anti-Tea Party cartoon reveals ignorance

In yesterday’s Washington Post, cartoonist Tom Toles argues that the tea party movement reveals itself to be racist by “want[ing] to go back to the Constitution as it was written,” despite the document’s acquiescence in the continuation of slavery. Toles’s cartoon is a particularly hateful variant of a misleading, but all too common, argument that tries to vilify critics of a “living Constitution” and justify judicial activism by pointing out that the Constitution was written in a different and less tolerant time.
