For some reason, Wednesday's Senate Judiciary Committee hearing has begun with questions from four Democrats in a row: Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island, Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Ted Kaufman of Delaware and Al Franken of Minnesota.
As of 10:45 a.m. ET, Franken was hectoring Elena Kagan about labor law, attempting to portray the Supreme Court as hostile to workers' rights.
Exactly why no Republicans have had an opportunity to question Kagan so far this morning remains to be seen. Perhaps they have deferred their turns, while preparing to interrogate the nominee about her 1996 "smoking gun" memo about partial-birth abortion.
