Boehner Releases 'Listening and Leading' Member Getaway Memo

House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) sent a getaway memo to House GOP members minutes ago recapping the past seven weeks as well as the road ahead as members head home for the Memorial Day break to talk to constituents.

The memo placed an emphasis on reconnecting with the American people that has gone by the wayside in Washington — actually listening to the people who have gone to great lengths to get the attention of their representatives over the past year.

From the memo:

In recent months I have discussed with you the importance of “servant leadership” – leading by serving.  It’s the approach Republicans have embraced as we’ve reconnected with our principles and reconnected with the American people.  And it stands in stark contrast to the example of the current majority in Washington, which has openly defied the will of the people on repeated occasions since taking the reins of power.  Servant leadership requires humility, and it requires listening — qualities that have been in short supply in Washington for too long.

America Speaking Out is the manifestation of Republicans’ commitment to servant leadership. In its first few days, America Speaking Out has seen a surge of traffic – a surge so large it nearly shut the site down during the first 48 hours. And in the coming days and weeks, online and in town hall meetings and forums across the nation, Republicans will engage millions of Americans in the process of constructing a new governing agenda – an agenda rooted in our enduring principles of smaller, more accountable government; economic freedom; lower taxes; fiscal responsibility; protecting life, American values, and the Constitution; and providing for strong national security.
