Navy SEALs Defended on ‘Glenn Beck’ Show

Judge Napolitano and Lt. Gen. (Ret.) McInerney defend Navy SEALs on "Glenn Beck Show."

Filling in for Glenn Beck, Judge Andrew Napolitano could never have done a better job. Simply put, Thursday night’s “Glenn Beck Show” was outstanding!

Napolitano conducted interviews throughout the show, however one stood out which made the show such a hit. Towards the latter half of the show, Napolitano brought to light realities concerning the case of three U.S. Navy SEALs charged with multiple counts of violating the Uniformed Code of Military Justice.

The charges against the three American heroes stem from accusations by a High Value Target (HVT). For those unfamiliar with the term HVT, it means this person is a terrorist. Not only is this person a terrorist, the HVT terrorist is one of the highest sought after terrorists in existence. To put it bluntly, this HVT, Ahmed Hashim Abed, is a real killer.

How many remember the photos and videos of U.S. contractors hung from a bridge in Fallujah, Iraq, back in 2004? Who was the alleged mastermind behind this atrocity? That’s right, the same guy who cried over a bloody lip: Ahmed Hashim Abed.

The U.S. Navy SEALs, one of our most elite military units, conducted a “snatch and grab” operation. “Snatch and Grab” operations entail securing an area, identifying the target, effectively controlling the situation with minimal collateral damage, and ex-filtrate the location with a capture of an extremely dangerous individual.

The SEALs risked their lives in an attempt to better secure U.S. national interests. The HVT was presented to Iraqi authorities for a short period of time. During this time-frame, the U.S. had no control over the way Abed was treated by Iraqi authorities.

Eventually, Abed was released back to U.S. authorities. In U.S. custody, the Abed claimed he was physically beaten by the three U.S. Navy SEALs. As a result, they are now facing courts martial. Without any solid evidence that these SEALs engaged in any form of physical abuse, they have been relieved of duty, read their rights, and are now in the process of being tried for an accusation alleged by an enemy of the United States. As HUMAN EVENTS notes, with Operations Petty Officer 2nd Class McCabe passing a polygraph test recently, these accusations continue.

During the segment on the SEALs, Napolitano brought in one of America’s most respected military officials: Lt. Gen (Ret.) Thomas McInerney.

Gen. McInerney is a U.S. combat hero similar to that of the accused Navy SEALs. He spent ample time in the Vietnam War as a combat pilot. His hours flying combat missions are impressive and he also served as a forward controller. Aerial forward control missions are deemed a special operation due to the grave risk taken amongst the pilots. After Gen. McInerney’s combat experience, he was assigned to some of the highest positions within the Department of Defense, include serving as Assistant Vice Chief of Staff, at the U.S. Air Force headquarters in Washington, D.C. Who better to speak about military heroism than Gen. McInerney?

As Gen. McInerney noted, the three U.S. Navy SEALs should not be in their current predicament. If anything, “these heroes should be presented the Silver Star,” he said.

If anyone should be accused of any military punishable offense, it should be Maj. Gen. Charles T. Cleveland. Cleveland is the ultimate decision maker who can drop such charges. His inability to uphold his oath for a commissioned officer is evident:

"I, _____ (SSAN), having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God." (DA Form 71, 1 August 1959, for officers.)”

Is Cleveland truly willing to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies? If he were, how could he be willing to damage the careers, morale, and willingness to serve amongst our hero’s? This case has potential to destroy the United States greatest tool in protecting our nation against threats; and that is our service members in uniform.

Judge Napolitano did this country a service. He presented an extremely crucial case that can easily make or break our fighting force. He did this through consultation and insight with one of America’s greatest generals. Gen. McInerney laid out actions that should be taken to mitigate any further damage to these three heroic Navy SEALs.

Coverage related to this specific case needs continuous monitoring. The people of the United States need to understand the uphill battle our fighting force continuously endures. Not only do they fight our enemies abroad, they fight our own enemies domestically. In this case, they are fighting a bureaucratic political debacle.
