Obama Administration Capitulates on KSM Trial Venue

Obama administration’s decision follows after outpouring of bipartisan protests.

The Obama administration, apparently bowing to public uproar generated by the 9-11 families and conservatives all across the nation (including HUMAN EVENTS), is apparently about to reverse its decision to try  9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and other members of the al Qaeda varsity in New York City.

The trial site became a rallying cry against the Obama administration’s policies in conducting the war on terror. Over 120,000 people signed a petition circulated by HUMAN EVENTS asking Atty. Gen. Eric Holder to move the KSM trial out of New York and to try him in a military tribunal rather than a civilian court.

HUMAN EVENTS is very proud of the role we are playing in keeping this issue on the front burner through our petition.

On Thursday, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg dropped his support for holding the trial at the courthouse blocks from the World Trade Center site. And Massachusetts Sen.-elect Scott Brown used the issue in his recent election victory.

The HUMAN EVENTS petition stated, “There is no reason, much less a requirement, under U.S. Constitutional or statutory law to grant KSM and the others the right to a trial in civilian courts, nor to offer them any of the corresponding Constitutional rights afforded U.S. citizens. Logic, reason, and justice demand that the terrorists who planned the 9/11 attacks be treated as enemy combatants in a war against the United States, not as common civilian criminals.”

Included among the 120,000 petition signers are Newt Gingrich, Steve Forbes, former UN Ambassador John Bolton and former Governors George Allen, Mike Huckabee, George Pataki and Mitt Romney.

Please sign the petition now, and help us keep the pressure on.
