Politico reported today that two senate Democrats and one Independent now wish the trial of al-Qaeda terrorist Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to be held under a military tribunal.
Sens. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ak.) and Jim Webb (D-Va.), as well as Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), signed a letter addressed to Attorney General Eric Holder requesting Mohammed’s trial be moved away from New York City civilian courts and be held under a military tribunal.
Joining them were three Republicans, Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), and John McCain (R-Az.).
Mohammed, a confessed mastermind of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, will be tried in a civilian court in New York City along with four of his al-Qaeda cohorts. This is according to a November announcement by Attorney General Eric Holder.
HUMAN EVENTS contacted the offices of all six senators and invited them to join in signing a petition requesting that Attorney General Holder move the trials of the al-Qaeda members from the civilian courts to military tribunals.
The senators were unavailable for comment on the matter.
You can find the petition here.
