The Independent Women’s Forum has conducted a poll of 800 women with a margin of error of ± 3.5%. The results are not good for the Democrats. Basically, women really don’t like the public option, want it not to affect them, and they really think all of this should wait anyway. Click through to see the results. Yesterday morning, to great fanfare in Florida, an anonymous website called truthaboutrubio.com went live. The website was registered one day ago on October 27, 2009, but it purported to have content all the way back to 2007. RedState probed the source code of the website and found this: img src=”///Users/rheffley/Library/Caches/TemporaryItems/moz-screenshot.png” alt=”" / Who is rheffley? How about Rich Heffley. Mr. Heffley played a key role in getting Charlie Crist elected Governor in 2006. More importantly, Mr. Heffley is now Charlie Crist’s top advisor in his Florida Senate race. Mr. Heffley’s business address is 420 E Jefferson St, Tallahassee, FL, which is the address of the Florida Republican Party. Mr. Heffley rents office space from the Florida GOP and the Florida GOP pays him $10,000.00 a month. His business partners are Jim Rhimes and Randy Enwright. If Enwright’s name sounds familiar, it should. He’s been heavily involved in the GOP and is the Republican National Committee’s field consultant. I tried to call Mr. Heffley for comment and he would not call me back. A St. Petersburg Times reporter did get Mr. Heffley to answer. Mr. Heffley refused to answer questions about the website and within minutes of that phone call the website was taken down. About an hour later, the website came back up and the source code identifying Mr. Heffley had disappeared. Not also that Charlie Crist denied any involvement with this website, but knew enough to know that the one day old website contained press clippings “all in the public domain.” That is an admission against interests that Charlie Crist’s campaign is responsible for this website. A video popped up on YouTube on October 24, 2009, using the standard Hitler clip all the kids are using these days to mock Florida Governor Charlie Crist’s Senate campaign against conservative stalwart and Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio. Naturally, it was an anonymous account that was also created on October 24, 2009. Three days later, the Crist campaign launched it’s anti-Marco Rubio website called truthaboutrubio.com. The star of the website was the Hitler video. The website ran a poll alleging Rubio’s campaign was behind the video and the website condemned Rubio for it. When RedState pointed out that Rich Heffley’s name appeared in the source code of the website, Heffley had the website taken down and his name was scrubbed. But we also were quick to point out the timeline and relationship between this “anonymous” website and the anonymously created Hitler video. Well, when the website came back online, every reference to the Hitler video had vanished. The poll was gone too, replaced by one about having two government jobs. Lindsey Graham is listed as on official member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, according to the Committee’s website, but when the Committee does business on Thursday mornings, Graham is conspicuously absent. Insiders have indicated to me that this is beginning to aggravate the other Republicans on the Committee. After Snarlin Arlen switched parties, the Democrats advantage on the Committee became overwhelming (12-7 margin), so Republicans need all the help they can get. At least at the staff level, a number of Republicans believe that Graham needs to go. One Committee Republican told me: “the Democrats have a dedicated group of true believers. We have three Members heavily involved in health care and Graham is not one of them. He could at least show up and pretend to be interested in helping Republicans.” How bad is Graham’s attendance? . . . Please click here for the rest of the post.
The GOP is currently fighting a number of critical battles in the war to regain control of the Senate. Two of those involve the battle to retain the Florida seat formerly held by the retired Mel Martinez, and the battle to unseat the increasingly unpopular Barbara Boxer. Both races feature a Republican primary pitting a “pragmatic moderate” against a more conservative candidate. In both races, the conservative candidate polls as well (or, in the case of Florida, better than) the moderate against the likely Democrat opponent. For reasons understandable to no one with any principles, the NRSC has undertaken to actively support the less electable moderate in both elections. Naturally, the NRSC has come under fire for this from those who are loyal to the conservative candidates in California and Florida (Chuck DeVore and Marco Rubio, respectively). Both DeVore and Rubio are serious candidates who have shown fundraising ability despite total abandonment by the GOP establishment. Both poll well in general election matchups. These facts seem to strongly imply that John Cornyn is using the NRSC to push liberal Republicanism for the sake of liberal Republicanism, as opposed to doing so for the sake of electing Republicans in tough elections. In a transparent attempt to quell this criticism, The Hill reports on the NRSC’s embarrassing attempt at covering this particular problem with a fig leaf . . . 15 prominent conservative leaders are out today joining RedState in making NY-23’s race between Doug Hoffman and the two leftists running against him a hill to die on for the conservative movement. Everyone from Ed Meese to Al Regnery to Tom Winter and Tony Perkins signed a letter from the National Conservative Campaign Fund urging conservatives to rally to Hoffman over Scozzafava. You might not know some of the names on the list, but each is important. In Washington and deep within the conservative movement, these men and women are real opinion leaders, opinion shapers, and money drivers. When something like this gets on their radar, it is a signal that the larger conservative movement is truly noticing what is at stake. Please click here for the rest of the post.
