Yesterday, Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Ok) engineered a successful floor fight against the Clinton-Schumer $1 million earmark to support the “Hippiefest” museum on the site of the 1969 Woodstock Festival. Conservatives should cheer this small victory and encourage Coburn and the other earmark-fighters to keep at it.
Coburn said, “I’m pleased my colleagues took a bold stand…in defense of common sense and rejected the self-interested parochial politics that have disillusioned millions of Americans. Maybe this is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius for taxpayers.”
A new Age of Aquarius? Well, given the proclivities of both parties, it’s probably too early to celebrate. But it’s not too early to thank Sen. Coburn and wish him success on many more earmark hunts.
