Since 1989, eight of the 10 most politically generous organizations, including labor unions, trial lawyer groups, and investment banking titan Goldman Sachs, have favored Democrats with their contributions. Only two organizations on this list favor Republicans — and they are almost as generous to Democrats. The following numbers come from the Center for Responsive Politics website, OpenSecrets.org, and reflect contributions from these organizations’ political action committees, employees and executives to candidates for federal office from 1989 through 2006.
