Egregious Earmark of the Week: $250,000 to Beach Property Group in Fla.

Rep. Jeff Flake (R.-Ariz.) has spotted another egregious earmark deserving recognition for being a wasteful use of taxpayers’ money.

Buried in the Transportation-Treasury-HUD appropriations bill (H.R. 2361) for fiscal year 2006 is a pork project worth highlighting: $250,000 to the American Beach Property Owners’ Association in Fernandina Beach, Florida.

"It’s just another day at the beach for Congress, while the federal government is swimming in red ink," said Flake.

The bill easily made its way through the House, 410-10, on July 28, as well as the Senate, 99-1, on July 29. President Bush signed the bill into law on August 2.
