Egregious Earmark of the Week: $500,000 for Road Project in North Pole
Ain’t no ‘Claus in this earmark to rein in spending’
Rep. Jeff Flake (R.-Ariz.) has highlighted a pork project contained in the massive transportation bill (H.R. 3058) that Congress passed last year.
This week’s egregious earmarks: $500,000 for a road extension project in North Pole, Alaska.
"It sure doesn’t look like there’s a Claus in this earmark to rein in spending," said Flake.
The bill passed through the House, 392-31, on November 18, and then through the Senate the same day by unanimous consent. On November 30, President Bush signed the bill into law.
