Egregious Earmark of the Week: $50,000 to Homer, Pa., for Athletic Center
This project makes voters want to scream, ‘Doh!’
Rep. Jeff Flake (R.-Ariz.) has spotted yet another pork project tucked into the Transportation-Treasury-HUD appropriations bill (H.R. 3058) for fiscal year 2006.
And he has decided to highlight the project as this week’s egregious earmark: $50,000 for construction of a new athletic facility in Homer, Pennsylvania.
"Pork projects like this make voters want to scream, ‘D’oh!,’" said Flake.
The House approved the bill on a 392-31 vote November 18, and that same day the Senate passed it by unanimous consent. President Bush signed the $137.6 billion appropriations bill into law November 30.
