Egregious Earmark of the Week: $250,000 to Atlantic Museum’s Graveyard

‘This earmark ought to be buried at sea’

Contained in the Transportation-Treasury-HUD appropriations bill (H.R. 3058) for fiscal year 2006 is Rep. Jeff Flake’s egregious earmark of the week: $250,000 for the construction of the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum in Hatteras, North Carolina.

"This earmark ought to be buried at sea," said Flake (R.-Ariz.).

The House passed the bill with a vote of 392-31 and the Senate sent it through without one vote of opposition. It was signed into law by President Bush on November 30, 2005.
