Egregious Earmark of the Week: $300,000 for Bovine Genetics in Maryland

‘Don’t we have enough sacred cows in Congress?’

Rep. Jeff Flake (R.-Ariz.) has decided to honor a pork project buried in Agriculture appropriations bill (H.R. 2744) for fiscal year 2006 as this week’s egregious earmark: $300,000 for bovine genetics in Beltsville, Maryland.

“Don’t we have enough sacred cows in Congress?” asked Flake.

The House vote to pass the bill 318-63 on October 25, and the Senate voted to pass the bill 81-18 on November 3. On November 10, President Bush signed into law.
