New White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Joel Kaplan, who replaces Karl Rove in that position, brings with him an impressive resume, particularly when seen through conservative eyes.
After graduating from Harvard and Harvard Law School, Kaplan clerked on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit for Judge Michael Luttig, a long-time conservative favorite for a Supreme Court nomination. Then Kaplan clerked on the Supreme Court for Justice Antonin Scalia. He also served four years in the United States Marines Corps.
