Top 10 Pro-Life States

On Nov. 25, 2005, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released a report titled "Abortion Surveillance — United States, 2002." This annual report is a synopsis of data voluntarily provided by the states to the CDC in 2002 (the most recent data available), documenting "the number and characteristics of women obtaining legal induced abortions." In 2002, three states did not report data: Alaska, California and New Hampshire. Below are the 10 most pro-life states, ranked according to their abortion ratio (number of abortions per 1,000 live births in the state). Note: Wyoming’s ratio was not available because the number of abortions in the state (10) was so small that the ratio could not be computed accurately. The highest ratios were in the District of Columbia (735) and New York (509). (Source:
