Female Privates Spark Campus Controversy

The North Texas Daily Online reports a campus controversy between The Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance and The Young Conservatives of Texas. At issue is the anti-male play "The Vagina Monologues" scheduled to be performed just days after Valentine's Day.

"Both student groups are dealing with fliers and posters being defaced and torn down. Though neither group has definite proof of the other's guilt, fingers are being pointed."

The executive director of the Young Conservatives of Texas is quoted as saying, “What we believe ‘The Vagina Monologues’ does is paint all men as perverts, weirdoes, or evil in different ways ... and violent. We believe that is not true and that men are capable or being much more than that.”

The North Texas Daily Online reports that the YCT filers urged the "Vagina Warriors" to "use [their] brain: (the other sex organ)" and that the flier is a product of V-Day Unveiled: "The Vagina Monologues" Exposed, a project of the Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute. The flier said the play degrades women, glorifies prostitution and mocks Valentine's Day, among other claims.

Another member of the YCT says, "We don't feel that the play is the best way about ending violence to women. If you teach guys to be more gentlemanly and treat women like women and not like objects, we think that will help women more than talking about their vaginas and reducing women to body parts."

And in true conservative fashion, the YCT chapter chair says "While we might not agree with what they are putting up, we will fight tooth and nail to defend their right to do so."

Again, neither group has definite proof of the other's guilt.

This isn't the first time fliers or posters have been torn down in the face of controversy on college campuses across the nation. Reports of conservative students having their signs defaced or removed are common. Not to mention, various conservative student publications have been reported stolen in an attempt to silence their efforts.

While I'm sure an investigation into "The Vagina Monologues" flier controversy will continue at North Texas, I applaude the remarks made by the YCT chapter chair, Her comments enbody true conservativism and the attitute every college student embrace.
