There's new evidence out today that Sen. Chuck Schumer (D.-N.Y.), head of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, is the prolific fundraiser everyone thought he would be.
Schumer's DSCC holds a 2-to-1 advantage over its rival, the National Republican Senatorial Committee, according to the Associated Press.
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has $25 million in the bank and raised $44 million in 2005. The National Republican Senatorial Committee has $10.5 million in the bank after raising $35.5 million last year. Neither committee reported any outstanding debt.
Like him or not, Schumer has done an outstanding job. At the same time, Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R.-N.C.), who conveniently spoke to the press a day before the figures were released, has some work to do. No question some Republicans are asking themselves if Sen. Norm Coleman (R.-Minn.), who narrowly lost the race to Dole, would have done a better job. It's too late to second-guess now.
