From a source on Capitol Hill:
Senator Reid said at their press conference that the White House couldn’t go with Harriet Miers because “she was an independent woman.”
Did the Democrats not say during her nomination, however, that they were concerned that Ms. Miers would not be independent because she was the President’s lawyer—a key confidante of this Administration?
So the White House then nominates someone with no connection to this Administration—or to any Administration, for that matter, because Judge Alito has been on the federal bench for the last fifteen years. And the Democrats now turn around and complain that the White House should have gone with someone independent, like Ms. Miers . . . . Follow that one?
