Saudi Royal Funds Harvard

This month, Harvard accepted yet another donation from the Saudi royal family, this time a $10 million grant designed to create a department chairship known as the Prince Alwaweed Bin Talal Professor in Contemporary Islamic Thought and Life. Why is this disturbing? First off, it's disturbing because Bin Talal is the same fellow who offered millions to Rudy Giuliani with the proviso that he be allowed to use his donation to make a stump speech deriding the United States and Israel. Second off, it's disturbing because Harvard has a long and disreputable history of taking money from the dictatorial and sadistic Saudi regime - a history made even more ironic by the fact that the Harvard faculty would undoubtedly refuse campus access to the American military if they weren't so money hungry.
