Over at National Review, Kathryn Lopez reprints a press release in which a Virginia congressman comes close to advocating an Israeli attack on Iran:
WASHINGTON, DC — Chief Deputy Majority Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) released the following statement today regarding recent comments by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. In the past several weeks, Ahmadinejad has called for Israel to be "wiped off the map," has suggested that Israel be moved to Europe, and today said that the Holocaust was "a myth." Cantor’s statement:
"Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s statements are becoming more outrageous by the day. Not only has he called for the complete annihilation of Israel, but now he scoffs at the murder of millions of Jews by calling the Holocaust a ‘myth.’
"It is becoming increasingly clear that Iran is being run by thugs bent on destroying Israel. Mr. Ahmadinejad should understand that America stands side by side with its only democratic ally in the Middle East, Israel, and that it will do all that is necessary to defend Israel.
"Mr. Ahmadinejad’s rhetoric toward Israel is becoming more heated as his nuclear weapons program becomes more developed. If the international community cannot see the imminent danger around the bend and disarm Iran now, it may be necessary for Israel to act in its own self-defense by preemptively attacking Iran."
