Egregious Earmark of the Week: Cattle Congress Collects $250,000

The National Cattle Congress in Waterloo, Iowa, earns this week’s most egregious earmark for $250,000 it received for renovation and construction of facilities.

The money was included in the Transportation-Treasury appropriations bill (H.R. 3058) for fiscal 2006.

"I’ve never been one to follow the herd, so I could complain about pork projects like this until the cows come home," said Flake.  "Allowing earmarks like this will one day be the Republican Party’s Waterloo."

The House approved the bill on a 392-31 vote November 18. President Bush signed the $137.6 billion appropriations bill into law November 30.
