I have been seeing stories about conservatives being upset that George and Laura's Christmas card this year reads "Happy Holidays." Now, I understand people being upset at Target and Macy's and the whole mess about the Capitol's "Holiday Tree" was ridiculous. (And, thank you Mr. Hastert for straightening that all out).
But, my roommate who actually got one of the White House cards said there is a Bible verse inside and she just sent me the text. Here it is:
"The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts; so I am helped, and my heart exhalts, and with my song I give thanks to him."
What is unreligious about that? And isn't the phrase "Happy Holidays" just a way of being inclusive of New Year's? I might be off, but I think if you put a Bible verse on your card you should be exempt of criticism not including the word "Christmas" per se.
