I don’t recall a debate as spirited as the one I’m now watching live on C-SPAN from the House floor. Republicans and Democrats are going back and forth, arguing whether it’s appropriate to immediately pull our troops out of Iraq.
Rep. John Murtha (D.-Pa.), who a day earlier issued a passionate call for withdrawal, has led the debate for Democrats, while Armed Services Chairman Duncan Hunter (R.-Calif.) has taken the lead for Democrats. Both deserve praise for leading their colleagues in a passionate debate that you just don’t see anymore.
As much I enjoyed Rep. Sam Johnson’s (R.-Tex.) passionate defense of our troops–"Withdrawal is not an option"–I must say that Representative J.D. Hayworth (R.-Ariz.) and Steve Buyer (R.-Ind.) stole the show for the GOP.
