Justice Hufstedler?

Conservatives should be thankful for small favors, such as the fact that Jimmy Carter was the only President of the 20th Century who never got to appoint a single justice to the Supreme Court.

During a recent appearance on “Larry King Live,” Carter said if he had had such an appointment, “it probably would have been Shirley Hufstedler.”

Now 80, Hufstedler had been an LBJ appointee to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and was named by Carter as the first secretary of education.
