Two Birds, One Stone

Most emails from Rep. Jeff Flake’s office are great ideas that will, sadly, go nowhere. Doubtless it is so in this case. The title of the latest press release says it all: "Congressman Flake Renews Call for Delay of Medicare Drug Benefit – Savings Could Be Used for Hurricane Recovery."

A one-year delay would create savings of $40 billion and preserve our nation from socialism for a little longer — perhaps long enough for Congress to wise up and repeal Medicare Part D.

Unfortunately, I predict that D.C. will elect a Republican mayor before Flake’s bill, H.R. 1382, gets a committee hearing.
