The Israelis just completed their withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. The first thing the Palestinians did was to loot the abandoned settlements and burn down a synagogue. Note the bizarre sympathy the State Department expresses for the Palestinian arsonists:
In Washington, U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said the decision [i.e. the Israelis' decision not to destroy the synagogues themselves] "puts the Palestinian Authority into a situation where it may be criticized for whatever it does."
Yes, the poor Palestinian Authority - criticized whether they do or do not burn down synagogues. I really feel for them.
