‘A Disgrace’:

One of the most powerful Democrats in Illinois joined with Republicans to denounce Sen. Richard Durbin?¢â??¬â??¢s (D.-Ill.) comparison of the U.S. treatment of terrorists at Guantanamo to the treatment of unjustly imprisoned people by the most evil totalitarian regimes of the 20th Century. At a recent news conference, Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley called Durbin?¢â??¬â??¢s likening of interrogations at Guantanamo to the tactics of Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot ?¢â??¬???a disgrace.?¢â??¬ Daley was moved to criticize Durbin, reports columnist Robert Novak, ?¢â??¬???in no small part because his 29-year-old son, Pvt. Patrick Daley of the Army?¢â??¬â??¢s airborne infantry, was visiting home.?¢â??¬ The mayor?¢â??¬â??¢s son, reported Novak, ?¢â??¬???resented what the senator said.?¢â??¬
