Democrats: Let’s turn military doctors into abortionists
How worked up do Democrats get when someone has the temerity to suggest that taxpayer dollars are funding abortions? Very. Even though most of them must understand that every dollar sent to Planned Parenthood is fungible — funding abortions, contraception and imaginary mammograms.
Well, a new bill introduced by Sen. Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey, goes all in, allowing service members to have abortion procedures in military hospitals, where they are now banned with exceptions for women who are victims of rape, incest, or whose life is in danger.
In the House, Rep. Louise Slaughter is carrying the The Military Access to Reproductive Care and Health (MARCH (how clever!)) Act
“Service women give the greatest sacrifice but are denied the same freedoms and liberties as their sisters enjoy,” Donna Crane, policy director for NARAL Pro Choice told a writer at the Washington Post last month. “They’re actually denied their constitutional right to abortion.”
Actually, they’re not denied anything.
I’m not denied my First Amendment rights when an employer tells me I can’t post pornography or a NARAL press release on this website and my employer doesn’t have an obligation to provide me with a Glock simply because the Second Amendment exists (though, I think I’d have a stronger case). Women are free to find a local government- subsidized Planned Parenthood and abort if they chose.
Furthermore, Slaughter argues that because women rely on military hospitals for their health care, “they’re forced to seek out a provider in a country where conditions may not be sanitary and where the language may be a barrier, endangering their health.”
Why would conditions be unsanitary? And what sort of language barriers is she talking about? Is Slaughter suggesting that we need more regulatory oversight on abortion mills, because I suspect most conservatives would agree. But most Planned Parenthood outlets, according to their own websites, have someone who speaks Spanish on site.
Lautenberg and Slaughter claim that servicewomen would be paying for their own abortions and it wouldn’t cost taxpayers a penny. That is untrue. At the very least, the law would turn U.S. government employees into abortionists.
