Sex selection abortion exposed
Planned Parenthood and the Chinese Communist government are both waging a lethal war on unborn women by promoting abortion based on gender selection.
The Chinese government’s “one child” per couple policy is carried out by voluntary abortion if possible, forced abortion if necessary.
Chinese couples favor male offspring and many Chinese women abort female babies in the hope that the next one will be male.
After a dramatic escape from house arrest and after seeking refuge in the U.S. embassy in Beijing, blind Chinese activist Chen Guangcheng recently landed safely in the U.S. amid much media attention.
Most of the U.S. media ignored why Chen was persecuted in China.
Chen is an anti-abortion activist and leading opponent of the Chinese government’s “one child” policy and the gender selection abortions that follow enforcement of that policy.
The U.S. government has long condemned gender selection abortion practices in China, India, and other countries.
The House of Representatives is scheduled to vote this week on (HR 3541) PRENDA, the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act, which would ban gender selection abortions in the United States.
The ugly secret here is that gender selection abortion is also rampant in the U.S. and that Planned Parenthood is playing a supportive role.
A group called Live Action (liveaction.org) has released the first of a series of videos documenting Planned Parenthood’s role in gender selection abortion. The series is called “Gendercide: Sex Selection in America.”
In the first video, a woman working for Live Action and presenting herself as pregnant, visits the Planned Parenthood clinic in Austin, Texas.
The woman speaks at length with a PP employee seeking advice on how to find out the sex of her baby declaring her intent to abort the baby if it is a girl.
The PP employee openly counsels the woman on how to defraud Medicaid to pay for the OB/GYN costs and cautions her to not mention to the doctor that she wants to know the sex of the baby because she wants to abort if it is a female.
Reacting to the video, Planned Parenthood released a statement condemning “gender bias” and “sex selection based on gender bias.”
The Huffington Post came to Planned Parenthood’s defense claiming that Live Action had edited the video to achieve the appearance of Planned Parenthood’s approval of gender selection in abortion.
In response, Live Action posted the entire video, providing further detail of the Planned Parenthood employee’s approval of gender selection as a valid reason for making the choice for abortion.
A Planned Parenthood spokeswoman then told Huffington Post that the employee in the video “did not follow our protocol” for dealing with “a highly unusual patient scenario.” Three days after release of the video the employee was fired.
The spokeswoman repeated that Planned Parenthood condemns seeking abortion on the basis of gender selection, but must provide “high quality, confidential, nonjudgmental care to all who come into” its clinics.
In fact, PP actively opposes and lobbied against PRENDA, which bans gender selection, claiming the legislation would “further isolate and stigmatize some women, particularly those in the Asian American and Pacific Islander and African American communities.”
In other words, PP supports gender selection abortion in those “communities.”
A 2008 study (“Son Biased Sex Ratios in the 2000 U.S. Census”) showed that Chinese, Korean, and Asian-Indian women in the U.S. tend to abort female babies in favor of male babies.
89 percent of Asian-Indian mothers in another study chose abortion when they found out they were pregnant with girls. Many of these women admitted they were coerced by family pressure to “choose” to abort female babies.
Even the Guttmacher Institute, a “progressive reproductive health research organization,” in their study found “some evidence…to suggest that the practice (gender selection abortion) may occur among Asian communities in the United States.”
Planned Parenthood’s support of this too often coerced “choice” victimizes both the mothers and their female babies.
A recent poll by the Charlotte Lozier Institute had 77 percent of Americans (and 80 percent of women) supporting PRENDA’s ban on gender selection abortions in the U.S.
The House voted Thursday defeating PRENDA by a vote of 246-168 with Democrats lining up solidly against PRENDA and in favor of gender selection abortion.
In a statement, Lila Rose, founder and President of Live Action, said “Planned Parenthood and their ruthless abortion-first mentality is the real ‘war on women.’ Sex selective abortion is gender discrimination with lethal consequences for little girls.”
