Meet the Monster of Norway

There is nothing more important about discussing the atrocity in Oslo than remembering the dead, and praying for the swift recovery of the wounded.  Let us pause and do that now.

Secondly, let us keep in mind that the accused has not received his day in court yet, so we’re supposed to refer to him as the “alleged” perpetrator.  I’m not going to, but I thought I should note for the record that I’m knowingly dispensing with that civilized courtesy.  Barbarians don’t deserve those courtesies.  This piece of scum certainly didn’t show any to his victims, many of whom were children he lured into firing range by pretending to be a cop sent to help them.

That’s what Anders Behring Breivik is: a barbarian.  The forces of anti-civilization march beneath many different flags.  This particular killer has a flag with a little Templar Knight on it.  His philosophy of destroying civilization through terror is no different than al-Qaeda’s.  His fever dreams just have a different “happy” ending for a different group of faithful.

The manifesto of Breivik’s group has popped up on YouTube here and there, throughout the weekend.  I had a chance to watch it before it was taken down.  It’s an al-Qaeda video with higher production values.  The message is exactly the same: we’re the true believers, all others have fallen away from our pure faith, the apostates who claim to represent us must be the first to die, secret truths are being suppressed by our weak and corrupt governments, outsiders are responsible for all of our problems.  The enemies of pure truth will die by fire, and the survivors will be enlightened… if they know what’s good for them.  Yadda, yadda, yadda.

Breivik cribbed from the Unabomber to get parts of his manifesto, replacing a few key words to insert his own dark obsessions.  With a similar rewrite, his “European Declaration of Independence” would bring a standing ovation at any al-Qaeda gathering.  (They clap quietly so as not to attract the orbiting Predator drones.)

“You cannot defeat Islamisation or halt/reverse the Islamic colonization of Western Europe without first removing the political doctrines manifested through multiculturalism/cultural Maxism,” the introduction to fifteen hundred pages of conspiratorial lunacy declares.  Strangely enough, the Islamists feel exactly the same way.  So do the anarchists.  If there’s anything remotely funny about this monstrous, murderous clown, it’s that he thinks the civilized world hasn’t heard all of his garbage before.

The Breivik document is called “2083 – A European Declaration of Independence,” but it’s really a bridge back to the 12th century.  It’s always about the 12th century with these savages, everywhere they appear, all around the world.  Their hatred for one another does not obscure their similarities, or distract them from fighting their mutual enemy: the rest of us.

There were a few squeaks of outrage over the weekend against those who suspected Islamic terrorists as the culprit, while the Oslo atrocity was still in progress.  Keeping in mind that such speculation should always be clearly presented as speculation, until hard facts are available, there was nothing wrong with noting that the Norway attacks smelled like an al-Qaeda operation, or noting that Norway’s government has Islamist enemies.  Castigating those who speculated about al-Qaeda involvement is tantamount to erasing the history of Islamic fascist terror, or pretending that global terror organizations might have turned over a new leaf in the hours before the first Oslo bomb went off.  No one should feel bad about living in the real world, or noting that Islamist terrorists have left it covered with bomb craters and dead civilians.

It’s also foolish to hold anyone Breivik claims to approve of responsible for his madness.  We’ve learned nothing from the national liberal media disgrace of the Tucson aftermath, if we’re going to start playing that game again.  Civilization does not accept the indictments of madmen.  It would be as deranged to persecute the people Breivik claims to admire as it would be to accept his list of designated enemies.

The same is true of the Unabomber, the Discovery Channel shooter, or any other politically motivated killer.  Terrorists are politically motivated as a rule.  Civilized people should not be much concerned with who bloodthirsty lunatics denounce, or who they claim to admire.  Sane people have no use for either the criticism, or endorsements, of the mad.

A Norwegian judge wisely denied Breivik the public hearing he desperately wanted.  He’s got 93 murders, and at least as many deadly assaults, to answer for.  The Norwegian legal system isn’t noted for handing out stiff punishments, but hopefully it will evolve to deal with this level of evil.  Norway’s police and counter-terrorist forces need to evolve, too.  Anti-civilization is everywhere.  It doesn’t take a global super-villain like al-Qaeda to murder children.  Such an atrocity only requires a few bloody-minded fanatics with the will to murder.  The common fear of all terrorists is facing a civilization with the will to stop them.
