Could it be that Democrats who made Samuel Alito's wife cry Wednesday were actually acting "extremely, very, very nice," as one liberal activist put it?
Maybe Kim Gandy, president of the National Organization for Women, wasn't in the room during when Senators Teddy Kennedy (D.-Mass.), Chuck Schumer (D.-N.Y.) and Dick Durbin (D.-Ill.) were asking questions.
How else would you explain this quote? (It's an excerpt from an article in today's New York Times.)
"Ms. Gandy said Republicans had, to some extent, hamstrung Democrats by creating a public expectation that they would antagonize Judge Alito.
"'So I think the Democrats are leaning over backwards to be extremely, very, very nice,' she said. 'I don't think it's an un-nice thing to ask follow-up questions and really expect the nominee to answer the question.'"
