One of the most powerful Democrats in Illinois joined with Republicans to denounce Sen. Richard Durbin??¢â???¬â???¢s (D.-Ill.) comparison of the U.S. treatment of terrorists at Guantanamo to the treatment of unjustly imprisoned people by the most evil totalitarian regimes of the 20th Century. At a recent news conference, Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley called Durbin??¢â???¬â???¢s likening of interrogations at Guantanamo to the tactics of Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot ??¢â???¬?????a disgrace.??¢â???¬ Daley was moved to criticize Durbin, reports columnist Robert Novak, ??¢â???¬?????in no small part because his 29-year-old son, Pvt. Patrick Daley of the Army??¢â???¬â???¢s airborne infantry, was visiting home.??¢â???¬ The mayor??¢â???¬â???¢s son, reported Novak, ??¢â???¬?????resented what the senator said.??¢â???¬
